Prepara tu show. Conecta tu equipo.Prepare your show. Connect your team.
AbleSync Canvas and AbleSync Monitor (iPhone and iPad) are companions to AbleSync for Mac: they connect to the Mac running your show, over the local network or by cable. They're free and work with your AbleSync for Mac licence; without the Mac, only the demo mode. Here's how to connect them, what to check if they don't, and how to try them without a Mac.
Empieza en la Mac.Start on the Mac.
Open AbleSync and its dashboard. In Setlist, choose Preparar show (Prepare show); you can close the guide and reopen it whenever you need it. The guide does not start playback or change your session.
- Conecta Ableton Live.
SECCIONESpara Intro, Verso, Coro…
- Revisa antes del show.
- Connect Ableton Live. Open your session in Arrangement and check the connection. If Live isn't responding or locators are still loading, wait or check the connection before changing the set.
- Prepare the songs. Put a locator at the start of each song and named clips on a
SECCIONEStrack for Intro, Verse, Chorus… ASong Endlocator marks the end of the music. TheSONG:prefix is only needed if you configured it on your Mac. If your download includesABLESYNC_TEMPLATE, copy that folder to your shows and open its.alsfile as a starting point. - Arrange the setlist. Choose the songs and put them in show order. Lyrics, key, MIDI and talkback are optional: configure what you use.
- Check before the show. Choose one Mac or both A/B Macs. Review each result and address errors, warnings or a pending Mac. An earlier result cannot confirm a Mac that is now disconnected. Preflight checks configuration; also complete your audio check and manual A/B switch test with your equipment.
Conectar Canvas en iPhone o iPad.Connect Canvas on iPhone or iPad.
AbleSync Canvas runs the show from the iPhone or iPad: Canvas (your tiles), Performance and the full Dashboard. It only talks to the AbleSync Mac. The licence lives on that Mac, not on the iPad.
- Open AbleSync on the Mac. The Mac and the iPad must be on the same network (not a guest network).
- Open the app on the iPad. The first time, iOS asks whether it may find devices on your local network: allow it. Without that permission it can't connect over the network, even if you type the IP.
- In the app's settings, pick your Mac under Macs encontradas en la red (Macs found on the network). If it isn't there, type its IP: on the Mac, the AS menu-bar menu shows it next to Red:, and Copiar el IP (para el iPad) copies it.
- If you set a control key on the Mac (
ABLESYNC_CLAVE), type it under Clave de control.
- Connect the iPad to the Mac with the cable. If the iPad asks, tap Trust.
- On the Mac, in the AS menu-bar menu, turn on iPad por cable USB (sin red) (iPad over USB cable). It stays on for next time.
- In the app's settings, under Conexión (Connection), choose Cable USB.
The cable needs no Wi-Fi and no internet. It's the way in when the venue network blocks everything.
El Canvas: presets y perillasThe Canvas: presets and knobs
- Presets.
- El plugin solo muestra «Device On».
- Presets. When you create a Canvas, under Empieza con (Start with) pick Show completo (Full show), Transporte (Transport), Mezcla (Mix), Baterista (Drummer) or Atril / letras (Lyrics stand). Faders fill with your set's channels; knobs start unassigned on purpose: you choose what they move.
- What a knob moves. MIDI CC, volume, pan, a send to a Return, or a plugin parameter or Rack macro. For a parameter you pick the track, the device and the parameter.
- The plugin only shows "Device On". Live only exposes a plugin's configured parameters. In Live, on the plugin's title bar, click Configure (the wrench), move the controls you want in the plugin and save the set; then, on the knob, tap Volver a leer de Live (Read again from Live). Or put the plugin in a Rack and use a Macro.
- You moved the plugin along the chain. That's fine: the knob finds it by name. If the plugin is gone, the knob moves nothing (it never grabs another one by mistake) until you assign it again.
The apps are in Spanish for now, so button and menu names are quoted here exactly as they appear on screen, with a translation.
Tu mezcla de in-ears, desde tu teléfono.Your in-ear mix, from your phone.
With AbleSync Monitor (iPhone and iPad), each musician moves their own mix: how much of each channel goes into their Return, and that Return's level. Nothing else: not the Main, not anyone else's mix, not the transport.
- Ask the engineer for your mix key.
- Put your phone on the same network as the Mac and open the app. It finds the Mac by itself; allow local-network access when iOS asks.
- Type the key and tap Entrar (Enter). It's saved in your phone's keychain: next time tap Entrar con la clave guardada (Enter with saved key).
Every channel has a meter under its fader, in dB like Ableton's: it shows the channel's signal even before you bring it up in your mix. If the engineer allows it, Agregar a tu mezcla (Add to your mix) appears at the bottom with the channels you don't have yet, dimmed: bring one up and it joins your mix.
If it can't find the Mac, tap ¿No encuentra la Mac? (Can't find the Mac?) to type its IP or connect by cable. If the show runs on two Macs (A and B), enter both IPs: your mix moves on both at once. By cable it only connects to the Mac on the other end.
- In Ableton, each in-ear mix is a Return. Send that Return what the musician needs to hear: the app only shows channels that already feed their Return. The musician balances; they don't route.
- On the Mac: AbleSync > Ajustes (Settings) > Mi monitoreo (My monitoring). Set one key per Return, 4 characters or more. One key can't open two Returns.
- If you run Mac A and B, set the same keys on both.
- Give each musician the key for their Return. Changing or removing it signs them out immediately.
- El músico puede agregar canales (The musician can add channels; per Return, on by default). On, musicians also see what isn't in their mix and can bring it up; tracks already inside a group and tracks with no audio aren't offered. Off, they only balance what you put there.
- Armar mezcla… (Build mix). A new Return starts with everything at -inf. This sets up its mix in one click: every channel at a starting level, or copied from another Return. It moves many sends at once, so it asks for a second click. Only from that Mac itself; with Mac A and B, build it on each.
- Pre-fader Returns:
PRE MUTE. A Pre send isn't silenced by the track's mute. Put a Utility namedPRE MUTEat the end of talkback, click and guide tracks: AbleSync switches it off with the mute (even if you mute by hand in Live). The send level stays the musician's. If the saved set is missing it on any of those tracks, Mi monitoreo tells you which. A Utility with any other name is never touched.
Plain-text keys are only visible on that Mac: not on the iPad, not on another screen, not on the musician's phone. Moving the Return level from the phone needs the AbletonOSC patch that ships with AbleSync; without it, sends move but the Return doesn't. If the Return is Post-fader, what the musician hears also depends on each track's fader, which stays yours.
Si no conecta, en este orden. If it won't connect, in this order.
- Is AbleSync open on the Mac? The AS icon has to be in the menu bar.
- Same network? The Mac and the iPad or phone on the same network. A guest network, or a different Wi-Fi from the Mac's, won't work.
- Local network permission? On the iPad or phone: Settings > Privacy & Security > Local Network > AbleSync (or AbleSync Monitor), on.
- Venue or festival Wi-Fi? Many block automatic discovery. Type the Mac's IP by hand. If that doesn't get through either, use the cable.
- Mac firewall on? AbleSync must be allowed to accept incoming connections: System Settings > Network > Firewall > Options.
- By cable? iPad por cable USB (sin red) turned on in the Mac's AS menu, Trust accepted on the device, and Cable USB chosen in the app. If still nothing, try another cable: some only charge.
- The iPad connects but nothing responds. The Mac has a control key: type it in the app's settings.
- Monitor says the key is wrong. Check with the engineer. After 5 failed tries the app asks you to wait a few seconds. If it signs you out mid-soundcheck, your key was changed or the Return is no longer in the session.
- “La prueba de AbleSync terminó” (the AbleSync trial ended). The Mac's 14-day trial has expired: the apps still show everything but can't move anything until the licence is activated on the Mac.
If none of this fixes it, email us with: the iPad or phone model and its iOS version, the AbleSync version on the Mac (it's in the AS menu), how you connect (network, typed IP or cable) and what the screen says.
Probar sin Mac.Try it without a Mac.
Both apps include a demo mode, so you can get to know them before connecting anything.
- AbleSync Canvas If no Mac is set up the app opens its settings, and Probar sin Mac (demo) (Try without a Mac) is at the top. It simulates a full show: setlist, sections, transport, faders and jumps, in Canvas and Performance. The Dashboard tab is the Mac's own page, so in the demo it only explains what it shows. To leave: settings > Salir del demo y conectar a mi Mac (Leave the demo and connect to my Mac).
- AbleSync Monitor Tap Probar sin Mac (Try without a Mac) on the connection screen. It simulates one Return's mix, with its channels, so you can move the faders.
The demo doesn't connect to any Mac or to the internet: nothing you touch there leaves the device, and the demo Canvas doesn't change the one on your Mac.
